Sunday’s Sunny Day at Chicago Flea Market was a gathering of friends, families, artists, and entrepreneurs. Each and piece, person, and collection was representative of a story. Some stories were expressed through clothing, painting, photography, and vintage collections. Other stories were expressed through food and other festival activities.
As a fashion blogger, I am interested in the journey, rather than the final destination. No piece of art is an end in itself.
Why did you take this direction in your career?
How long has your art been a part of your journey?
The questions are endless.
This is what we forget to ask.
Throughout my summer in LA, I have realized that the glamor and glitz portrayed in the media is unrealistic. We are unable to see the vulnerability and realness behind each artist, runway line, or musician.
As a Market Maker at Chicago Flea MKT, I was able to communicate with the artists, in order to gain a greater understanding and see each and every stroke, before the final picture.
I am inspired by PHILANTHROPY.
I was instantly inspired by the philanthropic efforts of many Chicago Flea Vendors. Art is not art without appreciation. I appreciate art and fashion, which gives back.
Joelle McNamara, the founder of BADALA understands the meaning of art. Joelle was in Africa during Chicago Flea MKT, for a cause greater than herself. When she was seventeen, she realized that half of the world was dying due to a lack of clean water. Her bracelets, headbands, and scarves raise money in order to make a difference, and allow her to provide water for those in need.
See- Fashion is Fierce & Philanthropic.
Buy a Bracelet. Save a Life.
I am inspired by RENEWAL.
Life is most beautiful in its purest form. I have always been hounded for my “hoarding” behaviors. What I see as a potential for art, others see a potential for garbage. I relish in the wonders of vintage goodness. Chicago Flea MKT had an array of vendors, who have the same vision as I do- preserving the old, and making it new. I loved perusing the vintage collections.
I am inspired by ENTREPRENEURSHIP.
As a young entrepreneur, I was inspired by Sarah Sebastian , creative entrepreneur and founder of Jojo and Sofia ( named after her Grandmothers). We could not have connected any more.
